Used Book Inventory Sources and Conditions

Used Book Inventory Sources

Maple Tree Book Shop staff members hand-select books for our curated selection of used inventory from charity, library, and other book sales. Inventory is also purchased at thrift stores.  Some of our inventory consists of previous library books, however, the majority are from donations to charitable causes. We also welcome direct donations. If you have books you'd like to donate to the shop, please email us at [email protected]

Used Book Condition Descriptions

The following condition descriptions are utilized throughout our used book inventory.

Like New: The book is in the same immaculate condition as when it was published. The book may have been read but shows no signs of use.

Very Good: The book approaches the condition of Like New, but without being crisp.  The book may have been opened and read, but there are no defects to the book, jacket, or pages.

Good:  Describes the average used and worn book that has all pages or leaves present. Typical wear is assumed but any outstanding defects may be noted. This is our most common category.

Acceptable: Worn book that has complete text pages but may lack endpapers, half-title, etc. Binding, jacket (if any), etc., may also be worn. Pages may show aging and discoloration but are still readable.

Poor: Describes a book that is considerably worn.  Content such as maps may be missing. This copy may be soiled, scuffed, stained, or spotted and may have loose joints, hinges, pages, etc. (Maple Tree Book Shop generally does not offer books for sale in Poor condition.)

As a policy, we do not offer for sale Advance Reader Copies as these books were given free to readers for review purposes and may not be the final or definitive version of the text.
